Blandfield Plantation Mansion completed in 1773 offers an ideal setting for an intimate gathering or gala wedding. Tours available upon request. June Parker Marina

Family-owned marina since 1986 with river access via its three-trailer wide boat ramp. Rappahannock Roundstern launches its fishing, birding and historical tours here.


Marsh Street Park

Located at 523 Marsh St., this beachy park features a swimming pool, covered picnic area and basketball courts.


Max Silver Memorial Courtyard

This recently completed space in the center of town is next to the Essex County Museum & Historical Society. Stroll the courtyard, relax on one of the benches and enjoy the lovely landscaping. Three outdoor exhibit highlight the history of Tappahannock, African American riverboat pilot Bill Manning and Max Silver, for whom the park is named. The courtyard hosts living history and outdoor programs and children’s events.


Paynefield Farm

This former plantation touts an elegant home, rustic barn, saltwater pool and ample open space to create the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable event. You’ll fall in love as soon as you pull in the driveway.

Rappahannock River Park

At the Rappahannock River Park, relaxation and enjoyment are effortless. Whether you spread out a blanket or settle into a lawn chair, the park’s waterfront setting offers the ideal backdrop for a peaceful summer evening. With benches available for sitting or picnicking, it’s a perfect spot to unwind by the river and soak in the tranquil atmosphere.


Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge

Well beyond the rumble of motoring cars, hear nothing but the sounds of wildlife in its natural habitat. Follow the one-lane gravel path to hike, paddle, hunt and fish. Snap pics from any of three observation platforms. Trails built around ponds and creeks are family-friendly. Set sail from kayak/canoe launch spots. Look skyward for the canopy of mature trees and always be ready for a bald eagle sighting. White-tailed deer and Blue Herons also plentiful.


Rappahannock Roundstern

Feel and taste the water on a classic wooden commercial fishing boat. Lifelong pals Richard Moncure and Nate Parker offer fishing, oystering, bald eagle watching and history-oriented trips on the lower Rappahannock in their Deadrise.

Tappahannock Central Park is a 2-acre park featuring expansive green spaces, state-of-the art playground and splashpad equipment, walking and biking paths and dedicated spaces for community events and gatherings. The park currently features 3 accessible pickleball courts and one tennis court available for public use. Find it located at 234 Virginia Street.


Thomas Downing Bridge

Thomas Downing Bridge

Built in 1963, this bridge that is the gateway to Tappahannock along Route 360 divides Richmond and Essex County and carries more than 14,000 vehicles per day over the Rappahannock River. Prior to the original bridge being built in 1927, only ferries served the area. The bridge is named for State Sen. Thomas Downing.
